Short answer

How this site thinks about diamonds.

Every page on 4Cs.co.za runs on one doctrine: evidence before opinion, the stone before the story, and a clear route when education needs to become a real conversation. This page is the method, written down, so you can hold us to it.

Use this rule

Do not judge one C alone. Read the certificate, inspect the actual stone, then decide whether beauty, budget, or resale confidence matters most.

Why a diamond specialist publishes free education

4Cs.co.za is published by Prodiam Trading CC, a South African natural-diamond specialist, and that sentence appears on every page because the incentive is the point. Informed people make confident decisions, and confident decisions are the only ones worth earning. The site's job is to make you harder to fool, including by us. The disclosure is not small print; it is the business model.

The three questions that price any diamond

Strip away the jargon and every diamond decision is three questions. What is it: identity and quality, which is the certificate matched to the physical stone. What condition is it in: wear, damage, repairs, and the setting around it. What route is it travelling: retail purchase, insurance replacement, resale, or inheritance, because the same stone honestly carries different numbers on different routes. Any page on this site, and any adviser worth your time, is answering those three questions in order.

Certificate first, always

An independent grading report is the only common language between strangers about a specific stone. It is the start of every serious conversation, never the end: paper must be matched to the stone, read for its comments, and weighed against what the eye sees in plain light. Pages here cite GIA definitions for the 4Cs because that is the global reference standard.

What we will never tell you

We will never quote your stone a price from a webpage, because honest numbers need the stone, the paper, and the route. We will never tell you one C is everything, because value is a profile. We will never present a chart as a verdict, an insurance valuation as a resale promise, or a lab-grown stone as anything but what it is. And the assistant on this site obeys the same rules: it teaches, it never prices.

How the pages stay honest

Definitions follow GIA's published standards. Prodiam process facts are stated only as published: by-appointment in Bedfordview, a 48-hour valuation process, cleared funds within 72 hours of acceptance, FICA-compliant. No invented statistics, no fake urgency, no anonymous testimonials. When something on this site is out of date, the fix is a correction, not a defence.

Direct answers

Common questions

Who publishes 4Cs.co.za?

Prodiam Trading CC, a South African specialist in certified natural diamonds based in Bedfordview, Johannesburg. The relationship is disclosed on every page of this site.

Is the advice biased toward Prodiam?

The education is written to be true whether or not you ever contact Prodiam. The route to Prodiam is offered, disclosed, and relevant when a real stone needs inspection; the method above is how we keep the line clean.

Can the site or its assistant value my diamond?

No, and that is deliberate. Honest valuation needs the stone, its certificate, and a route. The site teaches you the process; the valuation happens with the specialist, by appointment.

What sources does the site rely on?

GIA's published 4Cs standards for grading definitions, South African regulatory frameworks such as FICA and the Diamonds Act for process context, and Prodiam's published process facts for anything about Prodiam.

When to involve a specialist

If there is a real diamond, the next step is a certificate-led conversation.

Bring the grading report, photos, invoices, valuations, and any estate paperwork. The goal is to move from generic advice to a stone-specific view.
